But the coronation ceremony (this process by which American zombies go to the polls and vote with the belief that they are actually deciding something) will go on as planned. Democrats will vote for her anyway.
During tonights debate in Los Angeles, Hillary Clinton pledged that she would pull troops from Iraq in her first year to 18 months in office. That's what she has been saying publicly to get votes. But this is not what she has been saying in behind the scenes discussions with her advisors. (Be sure to listen to Ted Koppel's Commentary).
Democrats are being taken for a ride by both Obama and Clinton. Neither Democrat is going to be able to withdraw troops from Iraq within their first year in office.
The Democrats are likely to seek a long-term U.S. presence in Iraq and to continue many of the Bush policies there. That's if the Democrats can even win a general election. With John McCain emerging as the Republican nominee, things could not be shaping up any better for the GOP (under the circumstances). McCain will have a real shot at winning the White House in November.
The Democrats have put forth two candidates who were amongst the least electable in the Democratic field (Kucinich and Gravel aside). This has been a gift for the Republicans. On one hand you have Obama, who is still unknown to many American voters, and lacks seasoning. Although he appeals to many young voters, he will not be able to overcome the age old problem of race. This will show on February 5th, when Clinton will almost run the table on Obama.
Clinton, on the other hand, presents a different set of problems. Yes she is a known quantity, but she is a very divisive figure. So divisive, that she will fire up the Republican base- a group of voters who are not particularly crazy about John McCain.
The Democrats allowed the media to hijack their nomination process. The media was concerned about the Obama-Clinton matchup because of the ratings that it would bring, not because this was in the best interest of voters, and certainly not because Obama & Clinton were the most qualified candidates.
Now Democrats are faced with the trainwreck that I warned about a few months ago. Democrats and Progressives lose all the way around.
If Hillary is defeated by McCain (and this is a real possibility), then we will essentially see an extension of the neo-Conservative, pro-war, Bush policies. McCain has already said he intends to stay the course in Iraq, and open up new fronts (launch new wars) in support of the "War On Terror".
If Hillary wins the White House, we will see a Bush-lite approach to foreign policy. Essentially we will have many of the same Bush policies wrapped up in different packaging. If you recall the first Clinton administration, the foreign policy was extremely aggressive.
And who came up with the idea Clinton represented 8 years of peace and prosperity? It was prosperity for some, and it certainly wasn't filled with peace and tranquility. Bill Clinton had one of the most militarily aggressive foreign policies in U.S. History. He had more military engagements than any President in modern history.
*Somalia
*Haiti
*Sudan
*Afganistan
*Attacked Iraq (at least twice)
*Attacked Yugoslavia (& bombed the Chinese embassy, and almost sparked WWIII in the process) all to stop what was mostly a civil war, where some ethnic cleansing took place. Only a few thousand died in that civil war.
*Yet Clinton stood by quietly while hundreds of thousands of African men, women, and children were maimed and slaughtered in Sierra Leone and Rwanda.
We see the same indifference to genocide today from Whites in the U.S. and Europe, which allows these politicians to ignore similar events in Darfur and elsewhere.
The point is... What "Peace" are these people talking about?
Hillary (the "former" Republican) is just as hawkish as her husband. In fact, Iran is on the target list for both Hillary Clinton and John McCain.
There will be no good choices in November. The U.S. would almost be better off with 4 more years of Bush/Cheney, as crazy as that sounds.
In 2009, we will end up with a population that will return to its pre-2001 complacency, with a new administration in place that would very well be just as dangerous as the one we have now. At least with the Bush administration, a few Americans are awake and alert.
